Presentations

Unfortunately, all presentations are suspended until further notice. We apologize for the inconvenience. In the mean time, why not visit the Louis Armstrong House? We welcome groups both large and small -- call (718) 478-8274 to schedule an appoinment.

These presentations, which tell the story of Louis’s life and music through the treasures of our Archives, are offered at the Louis Armstrong Archives at Queens College, throughout New York City, and around the world. Thanks to the generosity of the Louis Armstrong Educational Foundation, we are able to provide these presentations at a reduced price.

A class from PS 147 visits the Louis Armstrong Archives.

Who is Louis Armstrong?
(Group presentations at the Louis Armstrong Archives)

Groups who visit the Louis Armstrong Archives learn about Louis by listening to his home-made tapes, viewing his scrapbooks, watching videos of his performances, reading his manuscripts, a question-and-answer session, and other such activities. The presentation is usually made by Peggy Alexander, Curator of the Louis Armstrong House & Archives. Groups who have visited the Louis Armstrong Archives for presentations include public school students, church groups, senior citizens, and jazz clubs. The fee for this presentation is $50.

Satchmo Offstage
(slide/tape/video presentations for the public)

Both Peggy Alexander and Michael Cogswell (Director of the Louis Armstrong House & Archives) are available to travel to public schools, libraries, senior citizen centers, record collector clubs, and other such organizations to give public presentations about Louis Armstrong as known through the materials in the Archives. Presentations typically include:

  1. slides of rare photographs, scrapbooks, memorabilia, etc.,
  2. tapes of newly discovered Armstrong performances, and
  3. tapes of Louis's candid, spoken-word recordings.

The fee for this presentation is $200.
